Job Description Summary

Our Nationwide Financial Actuarial team members use state‑of‑the‑art tools and are encouraged to innovate while mastering actuarial methodologies. If this sounds like a place where you could thrive, we want to know more about you.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compile, categorize, and analyze data under direction and oversight.
  • Build and test tools, analyze product calculations and illustrations.
  • Create, maintain, and run actuarial projection and valuation models.
  • Complete financial reporting and analysis with guidance from peers or leaders.
  • Develop expertise in pricing and implementation of products.
  • Assist in analyzing risks for lines of business.
  • Aid in valuation/reserving under multiple accounting regimes (statutory, GAAP, and tax) for products.
  • Possibly analyze and support reinsurance opportunities.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships

Reports to Actuarial Leader.

Typical Skills And Experiences

Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or related field with emphasis on modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis.

License/Certification/Designation: Generally has passed one or more actuarial exams and is actively enrolled in the Actuarial Development Program. Refer to the Nationwide Life Insurance Company Actuarial Development Program for additional information.

Experience: No actuarial experience required. Typical candidates may have internships, associate rotations, associate teaching, or tutoring experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and

Skills:

Basic understanding of Microsoft Office, analytical software (e.g., Tableau), and programming languages. Competencies include business understanding, problem solving, customer focus, ambivalence management, drive for results, and learning ability.

Additional criteria, such as leadership skills and related competencies, may take precedence. Staffing exceptions must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
