What

You’ll Do
  • Build and maintain actuarial models that guide pricing, valuation, and financial projections for pet insurance products.
  • Analyze complex data to uncover trends, assess risk, and support strategic decisions.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to develop new products and ensure competitive pricing.
  • Prepare clear, actionable insights and recommendations for leadership to drive business growth.
  • Contribute to a culture of collaboration and innovation through peer reviews and knowledge sharing.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • ASA or ACAS designation required; FSA/FCAS designation preferred or actively in progress.
  • 4–7 years of actuarial experience, ideally in insurance or financial services.
  • Strong technical skills in actuarial software, Microsoft Office (including VBA), and programming languages like R, Python, or SQL.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, team‑oriented environment.

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, Ohio. However, on occasion, applications from internal candidates working remotely or external candidates who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.

Job Description Summary

Our Nationwide Financial (NF) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state‑of‑the‑art tools, are encouraged to innovate and learn to master actuarial methodologies. As an Actuarial Senior Consultant, you’ll need to have detailed familiarity with business operations, systems, and actuarial methodologies. We’ll count on you to be adept at sophisticated actuarial techniques and work independently to combine advanced actuarial and business knowledge to provide high‑level analysis.

Additionally, you’ll provide consultation and recommendations on deliverables and maintain detailed documentation of actuarial models and analyses. You’ll work independently and may lead others.

  • Compile, categorize, and analyze sophisticated data sets.
  • Build complicated testing tools and conduct detailed analysis of product calculations.
  • Construct, maintain, and perform Actuarial, Projection, and Valuation Models.
  • Build financial reporting tools and complete analysis.
  • Price and implement products.
  • Conduct complicated risk analysis.
  • Establish reserves and other valuation items under multiple accounting regimes (statutory, GAAP, and tax) for products.
  • Perform reinsurance analysis and pricing.
  • Craft effective communication strategies and recommendations to leadership; develop supporting documentation.
