- Conduct complex actuarial analyses to support pricing decisions.
- Work with actuarial models using industry‑leading software.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify and address emerging risks and opportunities.
- Present actuarial findings and recommendations to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
- Successful completion of at least four actuarial exams and active enrollment in an actuarial student program.
- Three or more years of actuarial experience.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in actuarial software and programming languages.
- A passion for learning and a commitment to professional development.
- Highly preferred to work on a hybrid schedule, with 2 days per week at one of our office locations in Columbus, OH, or Des Moines, IA. Relocation assistance may be provided.
Our Property and Casualty (P&C) Actuarial team members have opportunities to use state‑of‑the‑art tools, are encouraged to innovate and learn to master actuarial methodologies. If this sounds like a place you could thrive, then we want to know more about you! As an Actuarial Specialist, you’ll gain a more thorough knowledge of our actuarial functions for our P&C products. You’ll also perform increasingly complex mathematical and quantitative actuarial analyses that are crucial to the success of Nationwide and the protection we provide to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Develop deeper knowledge of actuarial methodologies, source and manipulate more complex data within standard requirements.
- Adhere to actuarial standards by selecting appropriate data sources and making assumptions to develop recommendations.
- Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion.
- Prepare and present actuarial findings and documents suitable for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Adhere to assigned work schedule to ensure timely completion of tasks and group projects.
- Perform peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work, and drive innovation.
- Develop business relationships across PC multi‑channel finance and other areas of finance.
- Assist with onboarding and training of new associates on standard work processes.
- Use data mining techniques to identify new relationships in data and build models in different software packages.
Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader.
Typical Skills and Experiences- Education: Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or similar background requiring modeling, programming, or quantitative analysis.
- License/Certification/Designation: Generally has passed four or more actuarial exams and is actively enrolled into the Actuarial Student Program. Refer to the Nationwide PC Insurance Company Actuarial Student Program for additional information.
