Finance – Asset Modeling (Senior)

Location:

Hybrid or Remote

This is a senior individual contributor role and can be adjusted for more junior-level applicants.

Reports To:

AVP, Risk Modeling and Capital Management Leader

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and enhancing asset data processes, enabling efficient modeling of those assets for production and ad‑hoc analysis purposes.
  • Drive the asset modeling function, translating strategic priorities into operational reality; align communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, and internal processes to ensure measurable and sustainable results.
  • Lead implementation of complex asset types (structured securities, hybrid securities), investment/reinvestment strategies, cash flow behaviors, and regulations in Moody’s AXIS and MG‑ALFA.
  • Oversee QE asset model staging for production, for multiple lines of business.
  • Lead asset modeling for annual asset adequacy tests (AAT).
  • Train and onboard associates on asset modeling in Moody’s AXIS or MG‑ALFA.

Required Education/Experience/

Skills:

  • Strong Moody’s AXIS and/or MG‑ALFA modeling skills with thorough understanding of asset modules, fund level assumptions, and reinvestment switches/options.
  • Solid understanding of all investment asset types.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language for quantitative analysis (Python, R, MATLAB, SQL, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication skills; able to articulate complex modeling concepts to senior leaders.

Preferred Criteria:

  • 5+ years of relevant asset modeling experience
  • ASA Designation

This role does not qualify for employer‑sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Internal Compensation Grade: G5

It is our intention to fill this role in Columbus, Ohio. However, on occasion, applications from internal candidates working remotely or external candidates who bring critical industry skills and relevant experience may be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understands and assesses key business needs and responsible for developing the appropriate quantitative modeling solutions to these needs.
  • Collaborates with departments across the organization or business functions to accomplish strategic goals, objectives, and initiatives.
  • Builds risk analytic strategies for business problems through collaborating, consulting, and driving expectations.
  • Collaborates with teams across the enterprise to ensure that consistent model assumptions, processes and outputs are well understood and that modeling standard methodologies are upheld throughout the organization.
  • Crafts clear and concise summaries of findings and recommendations. Uses impactful storylines and data visualization geared to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Develops, tests, implements and administers complex quantitative modeling processes and tools.
  • Evaluates and ranks quantitative solutions to business problems.
  • Communicates the key benefits and limitations of sophisticated modeling tools for business applications.
  • Works across teams to ensure governance of modeling tools are applied consistently.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Undergraduate studies in finance, accounting, economics, statistics, mathematics or related subject area required. Graduate‑level studies in a related field with advanced degree highly desirable.

License/Certification/Designation: Progress toward FCAS, FSA, CQF, CFA or similar preferred.

Experience: Typically, seven or more years of related work experience in financial risk modeling or actuarial functions.

Knowledge, Abilities and

Skills:

Proven knowledge of processes and functions spanning the insurance and risk management cycle. Understands machine learning, stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulations, sampling methods and other statistical techniques applicable to specialized risk modeling.
