Job Description

Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol

Work hours:

Rotating Shifts & Rotating Days Off

Cadet Candidate Training Program:
  • Includes a training guide, physical fitness tests, monthly evaluations, and successful completion of the Field Training Dispatcher Guide.
Job Duties:
  • Under close supervision, participate in law enforcement activities such as traffic enforcement, crash investigations, criminal investigations, patrolling, rules of evidence, court procedures, and enforcement of driver licenses and vehicle registration.
  • Handle desk duties at patrol post, including answering phones, taking crash and violation reports, and responding to inquiries.
  • Operate Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to transmit and receive data.
  • Prepare and maintain required reports.
  • Operate multichannel radio systems for communication.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • U.S. citizen
  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Valid driver's license with no more than five active points
  • Entry into an academy before age 40

Physical fitness is a priority, requiring monthly assessments in endurance, push-ups, and sit-ups, meeting specific percentile standards.
