Agency Overview

The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the General Assembly. Alongside the Ohio Senate, it forms the legislative branch of the Ohio state government and works alongside the Governor of Ohio to create laws and establish a state budget. Legislative authority and responsibilities of the Ohio House of Representatives include passing bills on public policy matters, setting levels for state spending, raising and lowering taxes, and voting to uphold or override gubernatorial vetoes.

Job Description
GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Oversees the provision of media assistance to the Minority Leader and members of the Minority Caucus. Works closely with and under the direction of the Minority Caucus Chief of Staff.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Minority Leader and Minority Chief of Staff to develop comprehensive communications strategy for the Minority Caucus
  • Act as official spokesperson for the Minority Leader and Minority Caucus
  • Consult with Minority House Members, Minority staff and with news media representatives about legislative public policy and issues
  • Write talking points, press releases, legislative columns and other articles for use by Members
  • Coordinate Minority Caucus press events and social media toolkits
  • Attend legislative sessions, hearings and meetings
  • Monitor news reports and other information about the legislature
  • Work as a team with other directors to advise the Minority Chief of Staff and the Minority Caucus
  • Supervise and direct all Minority communications staff
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by the Minority Chief of Staff

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree
