Overview

The Skin Therapist (ST) engages guests in the prestige sales department, consulting on skincare needs to recommend products and services. The ST delivers quality, professional skincare services emphasizing the guest’s total look, representing the image, products, and culture of Ulta Beauty’s skincare brands and the Skin Room/Pod/Bar. The role supports the Experience Manager (EM) with performance, people, and process focus.

General Summary & Scope

The ST is required to hold a valid license in Esthetics or Cosmetology, provide exceptional guest service, and learn and communicate product knowledge. The ST is responsible for service quality, retail sales, in‑store events, and compliance with operating procedures.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities Performance
  • Perform services in the Skin Room/Pod/Bar, including facials, waxing, ear piercing (where applicable), and makeup applications; perform face fit express facials from a mobile station.
  • Meet or exceed sales goals for skin services and skincare products and contribute to store retail and service sales, guest loyalty, omni‑channel, and retail shrink goals.
  • Ensure each guest receives exceptional service by greeting, engaging, personalizing, recommending and demonstrating appropriate products, samples, and services.
  • Perform makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest experience.
  • Book guests’ appointments for initial services, return services, and events.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, and be knowledgeable about ingredient benefits.
  • Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
People
  • Contribute to an inclusive environment supporting teammates, peers, and guests.
  • Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
  • Build and maintain an active clientele portfolio for the Skin Room/Pod/Bar.
  • Serve all guests, including walk‑ins, timely and efficiently.
  • Establish professional peer and brand partner relationships to collaboratively deliver on sales and service goals.
  • Share benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
  • Regularly participate in ongoing training to enable continuous professional development and drive sales performance.
Process
  • Be knowledgeable of and ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; ensure compliance with state board guidelines.
  • Adhere to Ulta Beauty and Skin Room/Pod/Bar dress code and brand assets.
  • Follow established service protocols for a consistent guest experience.
  • Adhere to tester standards for the Skin Room/Pod/Bar and Prestige department.
  • Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager in a timely manner.
  • Maintain store operational standards, including cleanliness of the Skin Room/Pod/Bar, sales floor, restrooms, cash wrap, backroom, break area, and any other assigned area.
  • Protect company assets by following loss prevention best practices and providing exceptional guest service.
  • Execute other operational tasks as directed.
Job Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma preferred.
  • Cosmetology or esthetics license where required by state law.
Experience
  • Previous relevant work experience preferred.
Skills
  • Proficiency with latest salon techniques for facials, skin analysis, skincare machines, waxing, and makeup applications.
  • Proficiency with use of equipment needed to perform technical work.
  • Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell skin and makeup products.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Special

Position Requirements
  • Work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Attend brand‑sponsored trainings and corporate trainings and meetings.
Working Conditions
  • Continuous mobility during shift.
  • Frequent bending, pulling, pushing, reaching, and twisting.
  • Continuous lifting or moving up to 10 lbs.
