Medical Technologist – The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, James Cancer Hospital Laboratory, Columbus, Ohio.
Duties- Processes patient specimens using prescribed methodology and instrumentation.
- Uses laboratory computer system to prepare reports, enter and retrieve test requests and results.
- Performs and documents quality control and quality assurance procedures as prescribed.
- Performs and documents preventive maintenance as scheduled; monitors instruments to assure accuracy and precision of results.
- Recognizes, solves, and documents problems with patient samples.
- Assists with development, writing, and/or implementation of policies and procedures.
- Assists with ongoing preparation to keep laboratory compliant with all hospital and laboratory regulatory agencies.
- Communicates with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals concerning test results.
- Collects blood samples.
- Demonstrates annual competency by passing competency exams where required.
- Obtains American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification within one year of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or biological science (foreign equivalents acceptable).
- Eligibility for American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Medical Laboratory Technician Certification or Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification.
