Medical Physicist Assistant
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center

Scope of Position:

The Medical Physicist Assistant in Radiation Oncology works under the supervision of the Chief Physicist or his designee and is responsible for the specification, acquisition, and commissioning of all radiation-generating equipment, calibration and QA of treatment machines using departmental protocols, and acquisition and maintenance of all dosimetry and health‑physics equipment. The role includes reviewing radiation treatment charts, performing treatment plan second checks, brachytherapy planning, and radiosurgery clinical coverage.

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Chief Medical Physicist or his/her designee, the assistant provides entry‑level professional medical physics services to the Department of Radiation Oncology (and its outreach/affiliates) at OSU Wexner Medical Center. Responsibilities include evaluating and interpreting medical radiation treatment prescriptions, collaborating with medical providers to design and modify effective radiation treatments, overseeing and monitoring treatment plans developed by Dosimetrists, and participating in the development and execution of equipment monitoring, QA, calibration, and safety surveys.

The role also involves providing technical assistance in treatment plan development, monitoring patients, maintaining established policies, procedures, objectives, quality measurement, and safety, performing clinical research as required, and developing departmental procedures. All activities must follow established processes and treatment/QA standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

MS degree in medical physics or a related field from a CAMPEP accredited program. All junior medical physicists must have acquired a strong foundation in basic physics, as documented by a master’s degree in medical physics or a related field.

Additional Information:

Primarily First shift with assigned duties in 2nd shift as needed. Levant experience preferred.
