- High acuity PCU patient experience
- Experience with heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
- Basic skills in interpretation of dysrhythmias, rapid response team involvement, and various patient management tasks
Description:
The role involves working in a high-acuity progressive care unit.
The unit provides medical oncology care and progressive care beds.
There is an emphasis on caring for patients with solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology.
This is a 36-bed telemetry unit dedicated primarily to progressive care.
Patient care will require mastery of infection prevention protocols.
There will be minimal exposure to pediatric patients.
Experience in high acuity care is essential.
Skills required include accessing ports, managing blood products, and handling chemotherapy administration.
Nurses must be comfortable starting IVs and managing various lines, including central lines and PICC lines.
The patient-to-nurse ratio aims for 1:4-5 in medical surgical telemetry and 1:3 in progressive care.
Candidates must prioritize patient safety and adhere to infection control measures.
Experience in rapid response situations is highly desirable.
Patients will require management of cardiac drips, and knowledge of heparin protocols is crucial.
Flexibility to float between units of equivalent or lower acuity may be necessary.
All candidates should have comprehensive knowledge in their field and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
