Description:
This position is for a registered nurse in a corrections health unit setting.
The nurse will float to various oncology medical-surgical units as needed.
Staff safety is a priority in this secure environment.
Patient to nurse ratio is typically 1:3 in the PCU and 1:4-5 in MS.
Shifts will vary based on unit requirements.
Weekend shifts will be assigned based on staffing priorities.
Candidates should be skilled in medical-surgical, telemetry, and cardiac monitoring.
Responsibilities include the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring.
Requires managing end-of-life care, including IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, and pre/post-hemodialysis management.
The nurse will handle blood product administration, central line management, and patient-controlled analgesia.
Experience with respiratory interventions such as CPAP/BIPAP and high flow nasal cannula is necessary.
The patient population includes those with active oncology diagnoses and those requiring oncology workups.
Nurses will also care for patients with a history of cancer admitted for various medical reasons.
The unit operates under strict operational protocols with an emphasis on staff protection.
Interdisciplinary support services are available including pharmacy, radiology, and social services.
