Experience:

Minimum of 2 years required in a mixed acuity unit.
License:
Valid compact or state nursing license required.

Certifications:

BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required. ONS Chemo preferred.

Must-Have:
- Previous experience in a PCU or similar acute care setting.

- Experience with patient population including adults and geriatrics.
- Proficiency in computerized charting systems, specifically Epic.

Description:

This is a busy surgical floor that cares for both PCU and medical-surgical patients.
All permanent staff are trained in PCU.
The goal staffing ratio is 1:4, but it can be 1:5.
Weekend scheduling will be variable based on unit needs.
There is no blocked scheduling; staff will enter schedule requests.
First week of training will consist of dayshifts from Monday to Friday.
The second week includes 36 hours of on-unit training with a preceptor.
Patient diagnoses include various types of surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics.
Special procedures in this unit include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and managing oncologic emergencies.
There is a strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and preventing patient falls.
Staff will be responsible for managing various medical equipment including telemetry systems and IV pumps.
Interdisciplinary support is provided by teams including IV, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
This position requires a flexible approach due to the mixed acuity environment.
