An Instrumentation Coordinator works to prepare, sterilize, install, assemble, and clean all clinic or healthcare equipment required for surgeries, examinations, and medical procedures. The Coordinator ensures equipment, instruments, and supplies can be reused safely to prevent infections. This role is responsible for ensuring sterilized, appropriately functioning medical supplies and instrumentation are packaged and delivered to the point of use aseptically. Additionally, the Coordinator serves as a clinical liaison between the Operating Rooms and the CSS offsite location to track and allocate sterilized instrumentation across the Enterprise and to standardize instrument trays across the Enterprise.
The role operates 24/7 across multiple reprocessing sites within the Health System, including Ross Heart Hospital, University Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, Same Day Surgery, University Hospital East, and all ambulatory sites.
Coordinate and oversee daily activities between the Operating Room and Sterile Processing Departments to facilitate efficient case flow, including case cart assembly, decontamination, assembly, and sterilization/high‑level disinfection of all reprocessed surgical inventory. Assist in projects and process improvement. Promote customer service and patient satisfaction through effective communication with Operating Room clinical operations and multiple sterile processing departments across the Medical Center.
Order, procure, and organize instrument trays on a global level to service the entire Enterprise.
- High school graduate or possess a G.E.D.
- At least one year of experience as an instrument processor or Surgical Technologist.
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification issued through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) certification issued through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) required upon hire or must obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, TECHSYS, and Censitrac tracking; capable of learning additional software programs or hardware as required.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships; execute customer service, leadership, adaptability, and problem‑solving skills.
Location:
James Outpatient Care (1043). Position type: regular. Scheduled hours: 40 per week. Shift: first shift.
Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post‑offer process.
