As Human Resources Director, this person is responsible for all aspects of the employee experience in a large, multi-site manufacturing company. This key business leadership role directs & manages the organization’s HR functions under the direction of the VP of HR & Org Development. Areas of focus include Self-Insured Benefits, Professional & Operational Recruiting, Employment Law, Professional Career Development & Pathing, Policy & Handbook, and Employee Relations.

Within each area of responsibility, the job will proactively maintain & grow the business partnerships with other company departments, proactively protect & continually develop the company culture, ensure an outstanding employee experience through engagement, and provide management counsel & guidance. This leadership role will advance HR program planning, and overall effectiveness of a comprehensive, balanced HR strategy encompassing the business, employee, community and Company ownership.

The position ensures resource alignment & accountability to support key initiatives, doing so with highly effective and engaging communication skills. The position plans, directs, and coordinates departmental & cross-functional activities and resources on a medium to long term horizon, and is seen as a facilitator and problem solver in dealing with people, organization, and the overall business. The position manages people, budgets, and specific projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees and manages daily human resources administration and operations ensuring activities are in alignment with department and company goals, objectives and guidelines. Drives people strategies and best practices in overall human resources functions including, but not limited to, employee relations, performance management, employee benefits (full spectrum), employment law, LOAs, management counsel & guidance, and policy management.
  • Works closely with VP of HR & Org Dev on the continual development and influence of an organization strategy for the near and long-term outlook of the Company including leadership planning and development, staff function role & skill requirements, hourly workforce planning, support of 3 separate but integrated registered apprenticeship programs, job role change requirements, and associated activities & projects.
  • Strong support of the Career Planning process(es) and the internal & external (customer) training & development programs.
  • Works with cross-functional leadership and teams to understand workforce needs – short and long-term.
  • Evaluates Human Resource processes and associated issues to improve customer service and optimize efforts in the areas of employee attract-develop & retain strategies and improving employee effectiveness.
  • Partners closely with Company department leadership to identify, communicate, organize, manage and drive results within the organization.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Company, external resources & partners, and the greater outside community to maximize the relationship value and to ensure Company needs are met in a timely manner. Develops and maintains strong and enduring business and partner relationships – internally & externally.
  • Tracks, compiles, and presents information required for a review of department performance metrics and internal customer satisfaction results. Suggests ways to improve metrics.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organization development, operations research, business, or other relevant field of study. Desire Master’s degree in related subject matter.
  • Minimum eight years of progressive human resources and organization development experience, preferably in manufacturing, with in-depth experience in performance management, management counsel & guidance, and employment law/policy management.
  • Strong demonstrated leadership & influencing skills.
  • Proficiency in workforce forecasting, planning and strategy development.
  • Excellent people leadership, problem-solving, written, verbal & media communication skills.
  • Prefer understanding and experience with an ERP, particularly SAP, especially in HRIS and Learning Management (LMS) platforms.
