Position: Specialist, Quality Engineer (TOSCA)

This position is located in Columbus, Ohio or Des Moines, IA and includes a hybrid work arrangement with in‑office collaboration 2 days per week.

Job Description Summary

As a Quality Engineer you will plan and conduct a wide range of software quality tests and analyze results to ensure all application products and services meet organizational standards aligned to our quality management approach, as well as end‑user requirements. You will focus on a blend of skills enabling efficient execution of risk‑based testing, test automation, performance testing, test data management, test environment management, continuous integration, and continuous deployment, all improving speed to delivery for our business partners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out procedures to ensure all information systems products and services meet organization standards and end‑user requirements.
  • Analyze and review moderate requirements, user stories, and technical work products to create the required automation.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect our data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Plan for the proper mix of manual, automated, and exploratory testing methods.
  • Use appropriate quality engineering tools to define test data management, test automation, security/vulnerability, performance, and regression testing needs.
  • Validate test results, record and research defects.
  • Coordinate test runs and test environment calendars for all impacted applications.
  • Trace requirements to tests and test results.
  • Prioritize, define, and manage defect reporting and resolution.
  • Identify means to be more effective and efficient in testing without compromising quality.
  • Plan for continuous integration to enable a continuous deployment pipeline.
  • Execute moderate release testing and prepare for back‑out testing.
  • Validate that release components are installed in the appropriate testing environment.
  • Align with the Nationwide automated testing reference architecture.
  • Comply with release management process governance and timelines throughout the release.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to Technology Manager or Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences Education

Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or a related field is preferred.

License/Certification/Designation

Technology certifications including TOSCA Automated Specialist 1 (AS 1), TOSCA Automated Specialist 2 (AS 2), or other related designations are preferred.

Experience

Four or more years of experience with test optimization and automation tools. Demonstrated experience in testing for agile teams, including planning, test plan creation, maintenance, and execution. Good understanding of test automation and optimization across a stack and supporting tools.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills

Strong analytical and communication skills, knowledge of planning. Ability to problem‑solve and set priorities. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge is a plus.
