Overview
The Senior Network Engineer is a technical expert responsible for architecting, securing, and optimizing the organization’s enterprise network infrastructure. Building on the Network Engineer role, this position focuses on advanced routing/switching, security engineering, firewall architecture, performance design, and cross‑site connectivity. The Senior Network Engineer provides strategic direction, leads major network initiatives, and mentors junior team members.
Responsibilities- Lead the design and implementation of enterprise LAN, WAN, SD‑WAN, wireless, and hybrid connectivity solutions.
- Develop long‑term network roadmaps aligned with business growth, security needs, and technology modernization.
- Architect highly available, redundant, and scalable network infrastructures for on‑prem and cloud environments.
- Design and maintain advanced firewall architectures (Palo Alto, Cisco ASA/FTD, Fortinet, etc.) including segmentation, application‑layer controls, and zero‑trust enforcement.
- Engineer IDS/IPS, VPN, NAC, and network threat detection solutions.
- Conduct deep traffic analysis, threat modeling, and packet‑level diagnostics.
- Monitor and optimize network performance, bandwidth utilization, and multi‑site connectivity.
- Solve high‑impact, complex network issues as the top‑tier escalation point.
- Lead root‑cause analysis and implement durable corrective actions.
- Lead network upgrades, hardware refreshes, SD‑WAN transitions, and architecture redesigns.
- Manage relationships with telecom carriers, optimizing WAN circuits and failover strategies.
- Architect wireless deployments for high‑density environments and secure access.
- Mentor Network Engineers and Systems Administrators developing network skills.
- Create network standards, policies, diagrams, and architecture documentation.
- Partner with cybersecurity teams to maintain compliance and align with security frameworks.
- Comply with all established policies (General, Security of Information, Compliance) and Standards of conduct established.
- Other responsibilities or duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Networking, or equivalent experience.
- Typically 7+ years of progressive network engineering experience.
- Expert experience with enterprise routing/switching, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and wireless technologies.
- Preferred certifications: CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE, PCNSE, NSE4/5/7, or other vendor expert certifications.
- At least 5 years of real experience beyond basic VLAN changes; certifications such as PCNSA, CCNA or higher.
