Overview

As a Product Architect within the Enterprise Internet and Mobility (EI&M) BSA, you will lead end‑to‑end solution design across our web experiences that power Nationwide’s Enterprise Profile Management (EPM) journeys. You will shape resilient, secure, and scalable architectures that make it effortless for members to access, manage, and personalize their relationship with Nationwide.

You’ll apply hands‑on expertise in Java/Spring Boot microservices, Angular SPAs, and API design using Apigee, underpinned by strong general architecture design skills. Experience with AWS cloud services and patterns, API and data integration with enterprise systems (including eCIF) is expected. You will champion operational excellence, observability, application currency, and architectural simplification across services and front ends.

You will set and enforce non‑functional requirements and SLOs, including page load performance targets, resilience and graceful error handling, and privacy/security by design. You will personalize experiences based on interaction history and other knowledge sources, and drive iterative improvements informed by member feedback and data. You’ll collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, security, risk, and customer support, guiding architectural decisions, trade‑offs, and roadmaps, and ensuring consistent, reusable designs that accelerate delivery across CAM, COAST, Preference Center, CIAM, and  while upholding Nationwide’s standards for security, reliability, and member trust.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain systems architecture for a product domain or the technology portfolio, ensuring that the product meets functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Contribute to strategies, blueprints, and roadmaps for a given product/application/technology area focused on technical directions such as Cloud First; align product/application roadmaps with solution and enterprise roadmaps with appropriate guard rails.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology solutions from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Identify technology risk, technical currency, and technical debt related to applications when planning for new solutions, technology upgrades, and platform maintenance.
  • Craft moderate to sophisticated build patterns, accelerators, building codes, and standards, carrying out compliance with architecture standards.
  • Drive technical quality by conducting or participating in architecture, design, and code reviews, capacity planning, modeling, and testing.
  • Support and mentor engineering teams when unfamiliar new technologies or techniques are introduced.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
