Since 1972, the Ohio Board of Psychology has been protecting the public through examinations, licensing, education, and investigating complaints. The Board enforces ORC Chapter 4732 and OAC Chapter 4732, governing psychologists and school psychologists. It also regulates the practice of Certified Ohio Behavior Analysts under ORC 4783 and OAC 4783. The Board’s mission is to safeguard the well‑being and safety of Ohioans who receive psychological or applied behavior analysis services and to prevent illegal practice.
The Board consists of ten members appointed by the governor and is staffed by five full‑time employees.
- Conduct investigations of complaints and alleged violations of the Ohio Revised Code 4732/4783 and the Ohio Administrative Code 4732/4783.
- Interview complainants, witnesses, public members, licensees subject to allegations, and unlicensed individuals who may be practicing illegally or using restricted titles or techniques.
- Prepare reports and make recommendations regarding investigation strategy and case status.
- Interpret application of administrative rules, Ohio Revised Code, ethical principles, and Board policy and procedures.
- Respond to inquiries from citizens about complex and sensitive material related to confidentiality, client rights, mental disorders, and occupational standards of care in psychology.
- Draft legal correspondence and documents including case notes, reports, subpoenas, letters, notice of opportunity for hearing letters, consent agreements, and adjudication orders.
- Prepare confidential investigation reports and recommendations.
- Maintain files and records and confer with legal personnel.
- Request and serve Board subpoenas.
- Testify in administrative hearings on behalf of the Board and in criminal hearings on behalf of the Board.
- Handle sensitive inquiries received via telephone, in writing, or in person from physicians, legal counsel, consumers, and the general public.
- Assist in development of investigative policies, procedures, and methods in accordance with related civil service laws.
- Enter and maintain case information in the Board’s investigative case‑tracking database.
- Attend and participate in law‑enforcement seminars, training, and serve on committees and task forces.

- Or 30 months of training or experience as an Investigator Assistant (26210) with experience corresponding to the type of complaints and alleged violations appearing in the job posting, and a valid driver's license.
