A Day in the Shop You begin by reviewing shop drawings and interpreting weld symbols, planning your weld sequence, and setting up your station for production. You’ll perform flux‑cored arc welding (FCAW) on plates, angles, beams, channels, and HSS, using overhead cranes to position work. When required, you’ll thermal cut, back‑gouge, and grind for proper fit and sound welds. Throughout the shift you keep your area organized and safe, double‑check your work, and address issues before QC arrives—flagging any drawing or material discrepancies to your supervisor right away.

This is hands-on, shop-floor fabrication—you’ll be on your feet building beams and columns and taking pride in delivering code‑quality results.

Schedules

Shifts:

40 hours + 9 hours overtime per week is typical1st

Shift: 5:30am – 4:00pm, Monday–Thursday, 3:00pm Friday2nd

Shift: 4:00pm – 2:30am, Monday–Thursday, 1:30am Friday What You’ll Work With Overhead cranes, welders, torches, and grinders MIG Welder Flux-Cored Arc Welder

What You’ll Bring Hands-on welding experience

Ability to read blueprints/shop drawings and weld symbols

Proficiency with a tape measure and production welding setups

Willingness to learn, take direction, and uphold safety standards
