Job Description SummaryThe RNFA will work under the direction and direct supervision of the surgeon. The RNFA has acquired the necessary knowledge, judgment and skills specific to the role of RNFA and works in collaboration with the surgeon and other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities And Duties- 15% Preoperative patient management – perform nursing assessments and preoperative evaluations and communicate the plan of care.
- 15% Postoperative patient management – participate in postoperative rounds and discharge planning.
- 70% Intraoperative performance – work under the “direction of the surgeon” and be within Surgical Services.
- Functions as a First Assist to the Primary Surgeon – assist with closure of body planes, wound layers, subcutaneous and skin closures; inject local anesthetic; participate in tissue desiccation; provide hemostasis; place laparoscopic trocars; coordinate camera or robotic instruments; activate cautery and operate the electrosurgical unit; perform specialized tissue handling and dissection techniques.
- Out Of Scope Behaviors – cannot be the sole provider during the surgical timeout, cannot perform the initial incision, cannot mark the surgical site, cannot independently write orders, cannot be involved in any other role during the surgical procedure scrub or circulator.
- Associate's Degree (Required)
- CNOR – Certified Nurse Operating Room – Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI)
- RNFA – Registered Nurse First Assist – Competency and Credentialing Institute
- RN – Registered Nurse – Ohio Board of Nursing
Job Description
Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology and operative techniques related to the operative procedures in which RNFA will be 1st assisting.
