What you’ll do at DBH ResponsibilitiesClinical Supervision:
- Oversee and coordinate nursing services for patients on assigned shift per patient populations served within facility (e.g., adult acute, geriatric, forensic, MI/MR) based upon established nursing standards of care.
- Respect patient rights and adhere to ethical standards.
- Supervise and direct the implementation of the nursing process.
- Act as liaison with other disciplines (medicine, psychology, psychiatry, adjunctive therapy, social work).
- Provide oversight and direction during psychiatric and medical emergencies, ensuring proficient and timely clinical response; ensure implementation of timely staff debriefings.
- Monitor assigned staff nurses’ record completion (admission assessments, seclusion/restraint, incident reports).
- Continuously monitor the quality of nursing care through the nursing department’s QA/PI process.
- Initiate and carry out all steps necessary to support the hospital mission, philosophy, and values.
- Maintain knowledge of COBH procedures for responding to workplace incidents and work knowledge of COBH safety and prevention programs, including infection control.
- Perform additional clinical-related duties to ensure efficient and appropriate access for services and provision of care, including receiving admission requests from referral sources, collaborating with physicians to determine clinical appropriateness based on hospital admission criteria, managing admission processes, rounding on units, evaluating patient medical/psychiatric needs, conferring with physician/psychiatrist regarding patient care/treatment, using the computer to enter or retrieve patient clinical information, and ensuring completion of unit shift reports.
- Serve as contact for families, external agencies, and staff; coordinate off‑ground appointments (shopping, transportation to hospitals).
- Assure compliance with standards of accrediting agencies (Joint Commission, Medicare) and support and implement National Patient Safety Goals.
- Assist in the development of nursing and/or hospital policies and procedures.
Staff Supervision:
- Directly supervise Psych/DD Nurses, LPNs, and TPWs/PATs on shift.
- Facilitate use of “Team Scheduling”; ensure scheduling of adequate staffing based upon patient acuity.
- Manage use of overtime; approve or disapprove leave.
- Complete performance reviews and competencies in a timely manner.
- Recruit and support retention of nursing staff.
- Assist with staff orientation; counsel, coach, and mentor staff.
- Participate in continuing education training of staff for required CEUs and guide staff in holistic care and therapeutic treatment.
- Assure that staff remains current with hospital training requirements.
- Complete first step in disciplinary process; develop and implement performance improvement plans; attend or participate in meetings as assigned.
This is an hourly position and is exempt from the bargaining units, with a pay range of #15 on the E1 Exempt Pay Range Schedule
. Normal working hours are five 8‑hour shifts of 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM for the second shift and 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM for the third shift, requiring an every other weekend rotation
