Registered Nurse - Stepdown Neuro

Job Details

This position requires a dedicated Registered Nurse to join the Stepdown Neuro unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience nursing and a passion for patient care.

Shift

Night Shift: 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Stepdown Neuro or PCU nursing required.
• Specific Neuro experience is required, with a strong understanding of NIHSS protocols.
• Preferred prior charge experience.

Patient Care Requirements

• Experience with a patient ratio of 1:4.
• Ability to float to different units as needed.
• Expected daily census of 29 patients in a 29-bed unit.
• Patient demographic:
  Adults and Geriatrics.

Clinical Skills

• IV therapy and phlebotomy, with experience managing ports and arterial lines preferred.
• Knowledge of the following neuro-specific conditions and procedures:
  • Aneurysms and repairs
  • Craniotomy
  • CVA (Cerebrovascular Accidents)
  • Intracranial bleeds
  • Lumbar drains
  • Pre/Post neurosurgery care
  • Seizure disorders
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
• Experience in respiratory management, including CPAP/BIPAP.
• IV insulin protocols and management of cardiac drips, including titration.

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS Certification (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Charting System

Experience with Epic charting system is required.

Additional Information

• 24 hours of orientation will be provided.
• Up to 6 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule period.
• Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy.
• Participation in isolation precautions and telemetry monitoring is expected.
• EVD monitoring experience is required (hard stop).
