Registered Veterinary Technician
Position at ASPCA – Cruelty Recovery Center (CRC) in Columbus, Ohio.
OverviewRVT partners with veterinarians and staff to deliver compassionate veterinary care at the CRC, supporting investigations for animal cruelty cases, and working with foster and field operations. The role combines hands‑on care in the facility and support in the field based on team needs.
When & Where You’ll WorkFull‑time, on‑site at CRC, Columbus, OH. Regular schedule: 4 10‑hour shifts per week, including at least one weekend day. Flexibility required for long shifts, weekends, and up to 25% travel.
CompensationHourly: $28.35 – $30.75. Salary may increase beyond the maximum based on performance. Benefits include health coverage, dental, vision, 401(k) match up to 4%, paid parental leave, 10 holidays, and professional development.
Responsibilities- Provide low‑stress nursing care and diagnostic testing for shelter animals.
- Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, imaging, and medication administration.
- Assist in basic examinations, triage, sample prep, and radiographs.
- Support euthanasia procedures, post‑operative monitoring, and evidence collection for cruelty investigations.
- Maintain cleanliness, equipment, and records; enter data accurately.
- Collaborate with behavior, sheltering, and forensic teams; follow SOPs and safety protocols.
- Transport animals to appointments and maintain supply inventory.
- Engage in continuous education, certifications, and knowledge of state licensing requirements.
- Licensed veterinary technician in Ohio (licenses in additional states welcome).
- Minimum 1 year clinical experience with dogs and cats; experience with fearful/aggressive animals.
- Prior animal shelter experience preferred; knowledge of legal and disaster response a plus.
- Proficiency in low‑stress handling, pharmacology, CPCR, and diagnostics.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and critical‑thinking skills; ability to lift 50 lb and work in diverse conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and background check required.
