Research Associate, Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity

The research associate provides research expertise and project coordination capacity necessary to the execution of community-engaged research with Ohio State faculty and students as well as community partners at the local, state and federal level. The research associate designs and conducts complex interdisciplinary research across multiple policy sectors, including but not limited to education, employment, environmental sustainability, governance, healthcare, housing, law, and poverty.
This role involves working on multiple large, complex projects simultaneously and requires interactions with OSU faculty, external research colleagues from both academic and civic sectors.
- 45% Serves as the principal research analyst, performing data analyses and modeling to catalyze Kirwan’s interdisciplinary research agenda under the Kirwan State of the Science and Kirwan Innovations research portfolio as well as externally funded projects of Kirwan-affiliated OSU faculty. Provides research project continuity through the execution of data management protocols and production of technical reports.
- 30% Serves as the lead researcher on Kirwan’s various externally funded projects and strategic partnerships. This role requires a significant percentage of independent work across multiple projects, requiring excellent communication and time management skills.
- 15% Collaborates with other research staff on data analysis, data collection, technical report production, writing, editing and proofing of research publications and presentations. Prepares at the direction of the Associate Director and/or project principal investigators accessible data visualizations for community organizations, government agencies, foundations and other Kirwan partners along with online-oriented visualizations for research publications on Kirwan’s website.
- 5% Supports the Data Science Consultant with data acquisition and cleaning needs for a variety of projects. The research associate regularly acquires, cleans, and analyzes administrative data from a wide variety of policy sectors.
- 5% Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Master's Degree or equivalent experience required.
- 3 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree or 1 year of relevant experience required with Master's Degree.
- Demonstrated (via accessible portfolio of work) evidence of strong writing and copyediting skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in two or more research methodologies, including but not limited to quantitative statistical analysis, qualitative or interpretive analysis, or multi-method analysis.
- Demonstrated (via accessible portfolio of work) expertise in data visualization using Tableau.
- Years of experience: 1 year with Bachelor's Degree, or 3 years with Associate's Degree.
- Doctorate or comparable terminal degree.
- Fluency in a second language other than English.
- Master’s Degree in a Related Social Science Field (such as economics, planning, political science, psychology, public policy, or sociology) or Equivalent Experience.
- 1-3 years’ experience applying social science research designs to conduct applied research.

The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $58,700 - $65,000
. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
