Research Senior Associate
We are seeking a Research Senior Associate who designs, executes and manages research projects investigating the structure and mechanism of the Red‑beta recombineering enzyme in a foundational biological/health science lab within the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology. The scientist will collaborate with the principal investigator (PI) to develop study goals, design complex laboratory experiments, and perform advanced structural biology techniques such as cryo‑EM and single‑molecule protein‑DNA binding assays.
Responsibilities- Conceptualize, design, and execute complex laboratory experiments.
- Plan and conduct advanced structural biology techniques (cryo‑EM, single‑molecule assays).
- Coordinate processing and analysis of data; analyze and interpret results.
- Develop and implement new or revised research methodologies and techniques.
- Design experimental structures, sampling methods, and analytical techniques.
- Establish research controls, criteria, and standards.
- Perform critical literature analysis relevant to research.
- Collaborate with PI on writing and preparing research papers, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
- Present research findings at national and international scientific conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Assist in developing, writing, and preparing grant proposals to secure extramural funding.
- Develop and manage grant budgets and monitor expenses.
- Ensure laboratory safety compliance with OSHA, local, state, and federal regulations; maintain regulated materials disposal and maintenance.
- Train and supervise research staff; manage daily laboratory operations.
- Oversee procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment; provide technical assistance and supervision of equipment.
- Negotiate and oversee equipment service contracts and repairs.
- Master’s degree in an appropriate biological/health science field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or at least 1 year of relevant experience with a Master’s degree.
- Doctoral degree in an appropriate biological/health science field is desirable.
- Successful completion of a background check required; candidates may be asked to complete a pre‑employment physical, including a drug screen.
Salary range: $83,000 - $122,000. Full‑time position based in Reynoldsburg, OH.
