Research Scientist, Research Assistant/Associate
The Research Associate works directly with Professor Trevon Logan to advance a range of ongoing research projects related to economic history, racial inequality, and health disparities, and contributes to a new line of inquiry at the intersection of history and qualitative economic methods with the aim of studying how identity and experience dynamically determine material well-being.
ResponsibilitiesContributes to economics research program independently and as part of a team. Performs preliminary research, reviews background materials, and maintains databases. Collects data, conducts statistical analysis using Stata, Python, R or other software, writes statistical software programs, and organizes the presentation of results. Creates charts, tables, and descriptive text for presentations and reports. Conducts literature reviews. Contributes to the preparation of reports, manuscripts, and research documents.
Maintains effective communication with all members of the research team and outside institutions. Obtains and organizes information for research from other academic institutions and practitioners. Proofreads and edits citations of research reports, working papers, and publications. Maintains technical and administrative support for research projects.
Bachelor’s Degree in economics or related social science field.
AdditionalEducation Desired
Completion of at least two statistics/econometrics courses and one course in multivariate calculus.
Required QualificationsMinimum of 1 year of relevant research experience. This may include relevant work experience as a student.
Desired QualificationsDemonstrated proficiency in R, STATA, Python, or related software. Strong independent work ethic, interest in economics, inequality, and racialization, ability to collaborate with diverse research teams, commitment to equity, and quantitative research skills. Candidates must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community as part of a research community that interrogates the historical sources of racial inequality.

This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.
The pay range for this job profile is $51,500 - $67,250. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
