Description
The Implementation Science Accelerator Lab (ACCEL) (PI: Dr. Kathryn Hyzak) is seeking a highly driven and motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar (100% FTE for a minimum of 2 years) to support the development, testing, and scaling of innovative methods that improve the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of evidence‑based innovations in real‑world settings. As a newly established, NIH-funded lab, we are building foundational research infrastructure necessary for launching a portfolio of high‑impact implementation science (IS) projects across health, community, and policy environments.
The mission of ACCEL is to advance the equitable implementation and dissemination of policies, practices, clinical interventions, and guidelines designed to address traumatic brain injury (TBI) and TBI‑related comorbidities (e.g., substance use disorders, mental and physical health conditions) in healthcare and community‑based settings. We use rigorous implementation science methods grounded in social, behavioral, and implementation science theories and frameworks; design and execution of hybrid effectiveness‑implementation studies;
community‑engagement and community‑partner co‑design approaches for flexible intervention and implementation strategy development and adaptation; and mixed methodologies. We also provide implementation science expertise on collaborative projects across other disease/injury areas and implementation efforts (e.g., spinal cord injury, blood‑based biomarkers, cardiovascular care, etc.). The Fellow will work closely with PI Hyzak, collaborators, and multidisciplinary community partners to advance the science of implementation and implementation methodology, lead mixed methods research, and contribute to the lab’s strategic growth.
CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS INCLUDE:
- NIH K01 issued through the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). This is a pragmatic, hybrid type 2 effectiveness-implementation pilot trial investigating the effectiveness of the novel TBI-RECOVER intervention model on patient treatment outcomes and implementation strategies and their multilevel mechanisms on the implementation, reach, and sustainability of TBI-RECOVER in outpatient substance use disorder treatment.
- NIH R34 award issued through the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Community-Engaged HERN initiative. This is a mixed method, pre‑implementation clinical trial planning study to co‑design adaptations to a Neurologic Informed Care intervention model and implementation blueprint to address brain injury in homeless and housing service settings.
- Other implementation science‑focused projects as specified under the direction of the PI.
- Assist with the design and conduct of implementation science-focused studies, including hybrid effectiveness-implementation studies and pragmatic trials.
- Develop, refine, and evaluate implementation strategies (e.g., facilitation, audit and feedback, training models, policy interventions), including leveraging human‑centered design principles for strategy optimization.
- Lead qualitative and quantitative data collection and analyses, including interviews, focus groups, surveys, electronic health record data, and implementation and effectiveness outcome measures.
- Contribute to methodological, analytical, and scientific innovation in implementation and dissemination science.
- Publish research results in peer‑reviewed journals and present at national conferences.
- Contribute to dissemination of findings to academic, policy, and community audiences.
- Build early lab infrastructure, including SOPs, data systems, IRB…
