Job Title:
Researcher 3-Neurology## Department:
Medicine | NeurologyA Researcher 3 position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Nandini Acharya in The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology (PIIO). The laboratory studies how cellular and molecular determinants within the neuro-immune axis influence cancer initiation, progression, metastasis, and therapeutic response. The research program examines how interactions among sensory neurons, macrophages, and T cells shape the tumor microenvironment and anti-tumor immunity, with the goal of identifying biomarkers and therapeutic targets for glioblastoma and other cancers.
The Researcher 3 will function as a fully experienced research professional and independently conduct complex, large-scope projects with general guidance from Dr. Acharya on new initiatives. The position will design, execute, optimize, and troubleshoot in vitro and in vivo studies addressing neuro-immune regulation of tumor immunity; integrate findings from cellular, molecular, imaging, genomic, and animal-model platforms; and exercise scientific judgment in selecting methods and interpreting results.
The Researcher 3 will contribute substantively to manuscripts, presentations, reports, and grant applications; coordinate work with collaborators and core facilities; and serve as an experienced resource for students and less-experienced research personnel. ##
Education and Experience:
A PhD in Biochemistry, Immunology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field is required. The role also requires research experience that meets or exceeds the university's Researcher 3 minimum qualification of a master's degree with three years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with five years of relevant experience. Required experience includes independently planning and conducting complex cellular, molecular, immunological, or translational research;
designing controlled experiments; analyzing and interpreting multidimensional data; resolving non-routine technical problems; maintaining rigorous research records; and communicating findings through scientific reports, presentations, manuscripts, or grant materials.
Experience with mouse models and animal research procedures is required, including tumor implantation or other surgical models, therapeutic administration, tissue collection, disease or tumor monitoring, and collection of tissues for downstream cellular, molecular, and histologic analysis. Experience investigating macrophage biology, T-cell function, inflammatory signaling, tumor immunology, or neuro-immune interactions is also required. Required technical experience includes mammalian cell culture, primary-cell or tissue isolation, multiparameter flow cytometry, PCR and qPCR, Western blotting, immunofluorescence or confocal microscopy, histology or immunohistochemistry, and quantitative image analysis.
Experience training or mentoring students or research personnel and working effectively within multidisciplinary research teams is required. Preferred experience includes CRISPR-Cas9 or related genetic manipulation, single-cell or bulk RNA sequencing, multispectral or bioluminescent imaging, stereotactic procedures, intracranial tumor models, macrophage and T-cell functional assays, mitochondrial or…
