responsibilities- under the direction & guidance of higher-level highway patrol electronic technician, clean, install, repair, & maintain basic electronic & communication equipment
- install all rf mobile & portable electronic equipment (radios, portables, vehicle repeater system, etc.), various electronic equipment (emergency light bars, deck lights, corner lights, in-car video system), wiring harnesses, storage boxes, trays, consoles &/or cages into odps/oshp vehicles or vehicles for other state agencies, which may contain secured ammunition &/or firearms
- perform final inspection of installed items and electronic equipment for accuracy & completeness
- test, repair, &/or refurbish electronic equipment & wiring harnesses; repair electronic testing equipment used for monitoring & adjusting
- monitor & correct frequency modulations & power output according to fcc rules & regulations
- log repairs performed & adjustments to equipment per fcc guidelines
- assist in preparing required reports
- perform other related duties as assigned
- option 1: 18 months of experience in installation, repair & workings of mobile communication equipment or vehicular electronics; for positions requiring travel, must possess & maintain a valid driver’s license per section 4507.02 (a)(1) of revised code
- option 2: completion of 2-year technical program in electronics or radio communications; valid driver’s license as above
- option 3: completion of associate core program in electronic engineering; or equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment; for positions requiring travel, valid driver’s license as above
note: to meet the minimum qualifications through completion of a 2-year technical program, applicants must verify that the program consisted of a minimum of 21 credit hours upon completion.
