Facilities Maintenance Technician
Under the supervision of a senior technician or supervisor, the facilities maintenance technician performs intermediate tasks related to day-to-day inspections, preventative maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment. Functions include daily inspections, installations, general maintenance (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC) and repairs. The technician responds to emergency situations, evaluates and corrects defects, and may assist lower-level facilities technicians.
Other duties include assisting other trades as needed; adhering to all safety practices and procedures; cleaning and maintaining work areas and equipment; attending meetings; properly completing documentation; providing a high level of customer service; communicating to customers, coworkers and supervisors via written, electronic, and verbal methods and devices; operating department vehicle; performing other duties as assigned. The technician actively supports the university’s commitment to acting with integrity and personal accountability.
The Zone Maintenance Shop performs daily inspections, general maintenance, and repairs of assigned buildings and equipment, and coordinates projects performed in these buildings. This title is covered under the current Agreement between the Ohio State University and Communication Workers of America Local 4501.
Minimum Education Required- HS Graduate or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and experience
- High school diploma/GED with two years experience in general maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid OSHA 10-hour General Industry Safety and Health card.
- At entry, demonstrates competency in each of the identified technical specialties as required for this position’s level of responsibility: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC/R (or equivalent).
Shift, hours, days, and/or location are subject to change based on operational need in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement; may work overtime; subject to 24 hour emergency call.
