Principal Software Engineer role at The Hartford.
Responsibilities- Define long-term technical strategy and architecture aligned with business goals.
- Mentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence.
- Lead hands‑on prototyping and problem‑solving for complex challenges.
- Explore emerging technologies and drive innovation across teams.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Conduct workshops and proof‑of‑concepts to assess new technologies.
- 10+ years as Senior Software Engineer or 2+ years as Principal Engineer in large‑scale transformation programs.
- 5+ years of direct experience with GCP and/or AWS; strong knowledge of multi‑cloud ecosystems.
- Expertise in scalable cloud solutions using GenAI, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
- Strong understanding of Dev Sec Ops and scaled agile methodologies.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Knowledge of the insurance industry.
- Certifications:
Google Professional Cloud Architect, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
- Experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code tools (Terraform, Cloud Formation).
- Proficiency in microservices, API management (Swagger, Apigee, AWS API Gateway), and event‑driven architecture (Kafka, Kinesis).
- Hands‑on experience with Agentic AI frameworks (Lang Chain, CrewAI, Lang Graph).
- Skills in prompt engineering and instruction design.
- Knowledge of vector databases, knowledge graphs, and hybrid memory systems.
- Familiarity with observability tools (Splunk, Dynatrace) and secure deployment practices.
- Expertise in GenAI‑driven test automation and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, Docker/Open Shift).
- Strategic thinking and ethical AI governance.
Hybrid work schedule: expectation of working in office 3 days a week.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
CompensationThe annualized base pay range for this role is: $166,560 - $249,840.
