Finance Accountancy Officer – Schools

We are currently recruiting for a Finance Accountancy Officer to support the delivery of financial services to schools across the authority.

• Location: Conwy / Colwyn Bay, North Wales
• Contract: 3 months+
• Pay: £14.36 per hour PAYE
• Working Pattern: Minimum 3 days office-based, 2 days remote
• Start: ASAP

The Role:

Working as part of the Schools Finance team, you will provide a comprehensive range of financial support and advice to Headteachers and Governing Bodies, working closely with the Principal Accountant – Schools.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets for primary, secondary and special schools.
• Supporting the closure of accounts and preparation of final accounts at year end.
• Preparing and assisting with financial projections to support effective use of school resources.
• Visiting schools to provide advice and support regarding budgets and financial reports.
• Assisting schools with the interpretation of financial information and resolving financial queries.
• Maintaining accurate financial reporting systems and completing regular reconciliations with the authority ledger.
• Supporting creditor payments, purchase orders and compliance with financial procedures.
• Working within relevant VAT, financial regulations, Contract Standing Orders and Construction Industry Tax requirements.

About You:

We are looking for someone with previous experience in a finance or accountancy environment, ideally within a local authority, education or public-sector setting.

You should have:

• Experience of budgeting, financial reporting and reconciliations.
• Good knowledge of accounting and financial procedures.
• Experience dealing with financial queries and providing advice to stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good understanding of Excel and financial systems.
• The ability to analyse financial information and identify discrepancies.
• Good communication skills, with the confidence to liaise with schools, Headteachers, suppliers and internal departments.
• An understanding of VAT and financial regulations would be advantageous.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.
