Diagnostic Technologist (Immediate Care)

Location: Commack, NY
Schedule: Per Diem, Days/Hours As needed
Salary Range: $40.79 – $46.63 per hour (determined based on experience, qualifications, and education)

SUMMARY This position requires the technologist to be creative and responsible for providing excellence in clinical care as well as providing quality radiographs for the provider to make a diagnosis. The technologist must work efficiently and professionally, representing Stony Brook Medicine and the SBM Immediate Care. The incumbent will work independently most of the time with limited to no supervision, reporting to an immediate supervisor (Assistant Director) in the section.

Job Duties & Essential Functions
  • Acquiring X‑ray studies in a fast‑paced environment where efficiency is crucial.
  • Proficiency with all internal X‑ray and interfacing software to properly document and present studies for review by providers, aftercare, and radiologists.
  • Facilitating office functions impacting efficient patient care, including assisting medical and clerical staff with coordinating follow‑up studies or medical care, moving patients, interfacing with radiologists to expedite reads, and contacting patients to discuss results.
  • Assisting the provider with medical procedures such as EKGs, vital signs, rooming patients, and procedure set‑ups (training provided).
  • Communicating with patients, pharmacies, and physicians over the phone under physician guidance.
  • Assisting the licensed provider with in‑office, point‑of‑care tests (training provided).
  • Providing an extra set of hands during procedures (laceration repairs, abscess care, splinting, etc.).
  • Keeping an accurate and up‑to‑date QA log book, including pregnancy forms and daily check‑off list.
  • Acting as a liaison between the office and vendors/companies that maintain equipment.
  • Treating patients in a caring and respectful manner.
  • Assisting Medical Assistants with stocking rooms as needed.
  • Assisting with onboarding of new staff.
  • Cooperating with all personnel to conduct department operations properly.
  • Maintaining ethical relationships and adhering to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • May assist in developing technical factors and film selection.
  • May assist in use of equipment or procedures not routinely taught.
  • Participating in in‑service programs, annual recertification training, compliance training, and HIPAA training.
  • Performing all other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • High school diploma and graduation from an accredited radiology program.
  • Licensed by the State of New York in Diagnostic Radiology or holding an active NY State temporary license with a scheduled ARRT exam date (full license required within 180 days).
  • ARRT Registration.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association or ability to obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • One year of experience in radiology preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills.

The employee must regularly communicate with patients, staff, and medical providers, exchange accurate information, and constantly move around the office to assist patients, staff, and providers. Additional physical demands may be outlined by management.
