Compensation: $30 - $35/hr. + Full Benefits

The Equipment Operator will operate heavy machinery for underground utilities construction or excavation projects in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles.

• Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
• Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
• Maintain and care for the assigned heavy equipment; produce any documentation needed for each job; daily communication with managers.
• Load and haul the machine.
• Drive, set up, and break down safely and efficiently.
• Operate heavy equipment near active utilities.
• Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them.
• Rigging and setting of structures.
• Assist in other activities such as but not limited to placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring concrete, placement of asphalt, and avoiding marked utilities with precautions to prevent utility strikes.
• Communicate with supervisors for job details.
• Walk the path before equipment use to ensure utilities are located and develop a plan to go above or below each utility or obstacle.
• Inspect and maintain job equipment.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
• May work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1-year prior experience using locating equipment to find underground utilities.
• Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
• Familiarity with locate systems.
• Ability to operate asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and other heavy equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• DOT Medical Card.
• Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer is preferred.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and read/understand plans and specifications.
• Must follow OSHA, ANSI standards, and company rules & regulations; basic computer skills; knowledge of basic shoring methods.

• Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions.
• Must maintain visual and audible contact with other crew members and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination.
• Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time; bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds; and perform other physically demanding tasks.
• Routinely involves bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and twisting.
• Must be able to wear safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and applicable safety gear.
