The Jackson County Health Department, located in Commerce, is seeking a Medical Assistant. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, greeting clinic patients, reviewing patient medical history and information, and ensuring all required paperwork is complete.

Responsibilities
  • Calling and greeting clinic patients, reviewing patient medical history and information, and ensuring correct paperwork is present.
  • Assist nursing staff with pre‑workup, obtain and measure height, weight, and blood pressure.
  • Collect blood or other laboratory specimens as directed by nursing staff, prepare and log specimens.
  • Collect fees for service, answer phones, obtain confidential information from patients.
  • Check‑out patients, assist with referral processing and arrange laboratory services.
  • Work in the WIC program, including client work‑up with height, weight, hemoglobins, etc.

The position requires strong customer service and computer skills. The Medical Assistant may be asked to work at the Jefferson Clinic in addition to the Commerce location.

Qualifications
  • Associate degree in a related field from an accredited college or university; or a high‑school diploma/GED and one (1) year of experience in medical assisting.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) as valid. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degrees, diplomas, licensures, and other relevant credentials.
