TRAK Machine Tools is seeking a highly skilled CNC Lathe Machinist III to join our advanced machine shop team. This senior-level role is designed for an expert machinist who can independently manage jobs from programming through final inspection, machine high-precision components to ±0.0001", and provide technical leadership to junior machinists.
You’ll work on proprietary TRAK equipment and Mazak CNC machines, collaborate closely with engineering, and play a key role in process improvement and quality excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes for production and prototype work
- Develop CNC programs and perform complex, multi-step setups
- Design and fabricate custom fixtures, jaws, and work holding solutions
- Machine high-precision components to ±0.0001" tolerances
- Perform first-article inspections and in-process adjustments
- Train, mentor, and support CNC Machinist Levels I & II
- Partner with engineering on design-for-manufacturability (DFM) feedback
- Recommend and implement improvements in tooling, processes, and methods
- Independently manage assigned jobs from start to finish
- Create and maintain digital job folders, including setup, operation, and inspection documentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safety-focused work environment
- 8+ years of CNC machining experience, including advanced programming and setups
- Proficiency with CAM software and/or conversational controls
- Siemens Sinumerik (including Sinumerik One)
- ProtoTRAK
- Mazak
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, feeds/speeds, materials, and precision work holding
- Expert ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Demonstrated success machining to ±0.0001" tolerances
- Proven leadership, mentoring, and communication skills
- Ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve machining challenges
- Experience in prototype and low-volume production environments
- Hands‑on experience machining aluminum, cast iron, and various steels
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
- Work with industry-leading CNC technology
