PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Instrumentation Technician coordinates and executes maintenance electrical functions safely in the facility to ensure that plant equipment and services perform at maximum levels while minimizing unscheduled interruption of the plant operation. Additionally, this individual is also responsible for training, coaching, teaching and counseling otherson electrical maintenance procedures and best practices. Strong skills in planning, organizing, knowledge of programmable logic controllers, electrical systems, and process control systems is required.
This position reports to the plant Maintenance Supervisor.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety
- Lives the Owens Corning Safety Stand and meets all safety requirements. Safety is a condition of employment.
- Follows the plant safety process and ensures that good safety habits are instilled in the maintenance team.
- Maintains an awareness of all safety issues within area of responsibility, and responds with appropriate urgency to correct safety issues identified.
- Designs program safety into the electrical systems.
- Partners with key stakeholders on capital projects to understand and educate others on the safety of equipment
- Complies with all plant rules, safety regulations, LTT and job hazard analysis (JHA) requirements.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Ensures operation of machinery and electrical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on drives, backup power systems, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and other electrical related systems; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications
- Maintains electrical control software in support of programming for the facility
- Programs HMIs, PLCs, Servos, and other electrical systems
- Makes timely and appropriate decisions when an emergency or breakdown occurs so that production interruption is minimized
- For equipment or processes where maintenance costs are high, where reliability is low, or where chronic problems exist, performs additional analysis to identify appropriate maintenance practices (e.g., Root Cause Failure Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Reliability-centered maintenance analysis).
- Diagnoses electrical problems and determines how to correct them, checking schematics, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary
- Uses PLC, computer interfaces for troubleshooting as needed
- Uses the manufacturing communications network effectively
- Proactively makes suggestions/proposals to strive for continuous improvement of plant performance.
- Demonstrates flexibility to perform various job roles within the maintenance department as assigned.
- Responds to emergency maintenance service requests accordingly
- Performs other tasks as assigned by leader
Educating Self and Others
- Instructs maintenance team members on proper electrical installation and repair techniques as appropriate
- Coordinates contract electrical installations or repairs in the facility
- Inspects electrical work in progress to ensure correct labor utilization and evaluate electrical training requirements
- Provides direction for downtime and shop work for electrical activities with respect to work requests, downtime lists and assigned projects
- Trains, coaches, and counsels otherson electrical maintenance procedures, required trainings and best practices
- Recommends to the Maintenance Leader training and development of others in support of plant electrical power and control equipment
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing professional and intercompany networks
- Sets high performance standards for self, team and others; assumes accountability for delivering all performance expectations; always knows and adjuststo what’s expected; and monitors status of performance delivery against expectations
Maintenance Project Management
- Accountable for keeping the Maintenance Leader appraised of electrical equipment conditions so that situations of major significance can be planned for to avoid major production downtime
- Prepares electrical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Coordinates and executes maintenance electrical functions in the facility so the plant equipment and services perform at maximum levels and minimize unscheduled interruption of the plant operation
- Provides technical information to support planned electrical preventive maintenance to minimize production downtime
- Tracks electrical maintenance costs and failures
- Specifies electricalparts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtains them from storerooms
- Defines electrical spare parts needs, such that inventories are maintained at appropriate levels
