Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a senior wastewater engineer with at least 12 years of experience to join our Bay Area offices. Candidates will be involved with a wide range of wastewater infrastructure projects, focusing on treatment process design and construction. In addition to the technical requirements, the position requires experience with project management or the desire to grow into a project management role.

The position will include client development and management, supported by our local offices.

The role can be based in any of the Northern California offices from San Francisco, Concord, or Sacramento, however it can serve across the Northern California region depending on the expertise and the needs on projects and pursuits.

• Developing technical treatment strategies, selecting treatment processes, developing process design criteria, and delivering projects.
• Supporting and developing proposal development.
• Helping to identify, hire, supervise and mentor junior wastewater staff.
• Direct coordination and collaboration with clients.
• Coordination with internal technical specialists in all practice areas and discipline design professionals for project delivery.
• Managing projects to meet client expectations, budgets, and quality requirements.
• Following internal Hazen processes to ensure quality delivery of engineering projects for clients.
• Technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating assignments on small to medium projects.
• Performing planning, studies, design, and support of projects through design, construction, and operation.
• Evaluating progress of the project staff and results obtained and recommending changes to achieve overall project objectives.

• Experience in successfully delivering projects spanning multiple years in collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams.
• Experience in planning, design, and construction for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Proficient in all MS Office based computer software.
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, and capable of interacting effectively with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies.
• Self-starter with attention to detail.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Must be able to present complex issues to nontechnical people.

• Greater than 12 years of experience with wastewater treatment projects for clients is preferred.

• Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Civil, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in California (preferred in civil engineering).

• A Master’s Degree or PhD in Civil/Environmental Engineering is a plus.
