Planned Parenthood Northern California (PPNorCal) is currently seeking a Senior Individual Philanthropy Officer (SIPO) to be responsible for managing a portfolio of major donors and qualified prospects within a specific geographic region of San Francisco and Marin counties.

Additional major donors in Napa and Sonoma counties may also be part of the SIPO’s portfolio. In addition to developing long-term relationships with individual donors, the SIPO would be involved in developing and implementing plans for deferred gifts through estate planning and other types of gifts.

The SIPO also identifies and solicits prospective donors for Legacy, Capital, Endowment and Special Gifts both within and outside of formal campaign structures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works under the guidance of the Director of Individual Philanthropy and Vice President of Development to set goals and objectives to build and sustain a high level of individual major gifts support for Planned Parenthood Northern California.
  • Plans and implements the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of donors and prospects in the individual major gifts program for the assigned regions.
  • Develops solicitation strategies that may include multiple philanthropic vehicles including working with other development staff to develop planned giving as a critical component of a strategic fundraising plan.
  • Involved in further training of staff and volunteers for donor solicitation resulting in effective preparation of the CEO, leadership volunteers and senior staff for donor visits.
  • Personally cultivates and successfully solicits individual donors/prospects via in-person meetings and/or other forms of written and verbal communication.
  • Participates in meetings of the board Resource Development Committee as needed, and provides staff support to select volunteer advisory/fundraising groups.
  • Cultivates relationships with potential advisory groups to effectively involve them in prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  • Collaborates with affiliate staff throughout the region to identify unique and appropriate opportunities to engage donors and fund core programs, and foster good two-way communication with the development team.
  • Develops the annual work plan for their own portfolio, and provides input for other major gifts portfolios as needed.
  • Collaborates with the major gifts/individual philanthropy team to determine appropriate relationship-building and revenue-generating events to engage prospects and donors, builds these into the overall plan for the region, and collaborates with the Special Events Coordinator on event implementation.
  • Collaborates with the Institutional Giving Team and program staff to seek gifts for operations, planned gifts, foundation gifts and other giving opportunities consistent with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Collaborates in developing of donor communications, online and offline, to engage and solicit major donors.
  • Collaborates with other development staff on cultivation and stewardship activities, proposal development, site visits, special events, and campaigns.
  • Identifies major donors for potential involvement in advisory groups or for possible board membership.
  • Prepares regular activity updates for management.
  • Ensures that prospect and donor information is recorded accurately in Raisers’ Edge and collaborates with Operations Team on systems, reports and other infrastructure needs.
  • Participates in departmental and interdepartmental work groups as required.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS

  • CFRE designation is helpful, but not required.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fund development.
  • Familiarity with planned giving is desirable.
  • Superior writing and verbal communication skills; excellent public speaking skills.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
