Position: Without Walls Educator

Are you a professional in the special education field and want to do something different? The Guild for Human Services values community-based inclusion for our students. We are seeking creative, experienced, and excited professionals of all backgrounds to work as educators in our community-based education program with intellectual disabilities.

If you are looking for a challenge and have an OT, OT-A, SLP, SLP-A, BCBA, BCBA or other related degrees/certifications and have a commitment to inclusion and experiential learning, apply! Without walls educators will be responsible for co-teaching classes designed to enhance generalization and real-life application of skills into larger groups and the community.

Alongside a licensed classroom special educator, clinical, residential, vocational, and recreational services team, this position will develop lesson plans that encourage community inclusion and engagement, independence, and the development of life habits and skills that can create happiness and satisfaction for our student’s long-term quality of life.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Teaches functional living and community-based skills to various profiles of students.
  • Establishes, maintains, and promotes a classroom atmosphere, which ensures the emotional and physical safety of students and emphasizes mutual respect, self-worth, self-discipline, cooperation, consideration, and responsibility.
  • Develop and maintain community, generalization and functional life skills assessments and curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential records for all assigned students.
  • Provides information, support, and communication with all team members to include families and districts.
  • Coordinates with our employment and recreation department to practice and embed possible scenarios / locations for community engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting regarding each student’s development.
  • Utilizes and implements classroom management techniques and positive reinforcement to maintain organization, orderliness, and a productive learning environment.
  • Represent the program to parents, educational consultants, educational professionals, and potential employers for assigned caseload/classroom.
  • Coordinate and facilitate on and off-site experiential learning activities for assigned caseload/classroom as well as implement classroom curriculum.
  • Records attendance, progress, and related IEP documentation for students enrolled in classes.
  • Serves as sponsor for related after school activities.
  • Participates in department meetings, IEP meetings, and Transition team meetings.
  • Active participant in committees and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor required; masters preferred.
  • Massachusetts Certification in Moderate or Severe Special Needs or willingness to be waived and participate in structured guidance and support. Or a clinical license such as OT or OTA, SLP or SLPA, BCBA or BCaBA (would consider an RBT with appropriate experience and degree).
  • Training or experience teaching skills to students who have a mental health and/or developmental disability diagnosis.
  • Ability to demonstrate supervisory and administrative skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Undergo DEEC background check requirements.
  • Able to work flexible hours.
