Local Building Inspector
The Town of Concord’s Building Division seeks a Local Inspector to administer and enforce building codes, architectural access regulations, zoning and sign bylaws, and decisions of local Boards and Commissions. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills and effective written and verbal communication skills. Position requires strong knowledge of laws, regulations, policies and standards related to building inspections, standard requirements for building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation and safe egress, and associated equipment and materials.
MA certification as a Local Inspector required within 18 months of hire.
Starting salary range: $80,433.00 – $96,125.60/ year, based on qualifications. This is a full-time

GENERALSUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Building Commissioner, enforces state building codes and town zoning regulations, reviews permit applications, issues permits and performs inspections. Responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under the direction and control of the position. Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of departmental operations and the exercise of judgment and initiative in completing tasks, particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.
Incumbent is called upon to handle a significant amount of detail, each varying from the other in substance and content, requiring incumbent to approach workload with flexibility.
External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.
- Administers and enforces building codes, architectural access regulations, zoning and sign bylaws, Planning Board site plans and decisions of the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Historic District Commission and the Historical Commission.
- Reviews applications and plans, coordinates with other departments to ensure plans are complete, issues permits and certificates, determines and collects fees consistent with established schedules, and conducts field and safety inspections.
- Inspects various local businesses, childcare facilities, schools, nursing homes, and hospitals on an annual basis and makes recommendations to the Select Board concerning the issuance and renewal of liquor licenses, inn keeper and lodging house licenses, motor vehicle licenses, taxicab licenses and common victualer licenses.
- Performs housing inspections with the Board of Health.
- Assists the public in resolving building construction and zoning issues. Consults with owners, contractors, tradespeople, applicants and others to achieve required compliance.
