Are you looking to join an amazing community of people dedicated to educating and improving teenagers? Middlesex School has been developing the minds, bodies, and hearts of teenagers for almost 125 years. The School is looking for a plumber to join our MEPC team of professionals caring for this historic institution. In this role you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of plumbing within the Facilities Department.

Under the direction of the Manager of MEPC, Assistant Director of Facilities, or Director of Facilities and Operations, execute on all matters related to plumbing across a 350-acre campus with buildings totaling over 500,000 square feet with an on-site wastewater treatment plant. The Plumber will perform skilled plumbing work as part of constructing, maintaining, repairing, or modifying plumbing and related systems in buildings and facilities throughout the School’s campus.

Required

education and experience
  • Education sufficient to read, write, and speak as needed for the job.
  • 5 years or more of experience in plumbing
  • Possess and maintain valid driver’s license.
  • Maintains licensure in plumbing trade.
Additional eligibility requirements
  • Able to successfully complete CHRI, CORI, and SORI checks.
Schedule

Generally, Monday through Friday 7AM – 3:30PM with some Saturday and/or Sunday work as needed. Seasonally respond to the need for snow removal, athletic field support, emergency closings, and other special circumstances.

  • Participate in the development of standards for the plumbing team; ensures compliance with these standards
  • Leads and participates in the execution of routine maintenance schedules for plumbing on campus.
  • Maintain and improve the integrity of the School’s buildings and facilities, etc.
  • Executes a system of work practices for recurring work that maximizes the use of the resources provided.
  • Review and provide input on job estimates and bids for projects to be completed by outside contractors.
  • Coordinate, inspect, approve, and manage work by third party vendors related to grounds.
  • Conduct daily/weekly/monthly inspections of the School’s buildings and facilities, etc. and provide data to the Manager of MEPC, Assistant Director of Facilities, or Director of Facilities and Operations, to aid in the development of departmental plans and budgets.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair the on‑site wastewater treatment plant.
  • Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures, including steam.
  • Collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other construction professionals.
  • Follow building plans and blueprints.
  • Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies.
  • Reads blueprints, sketches, and schematics to determine the necessary materials, equipment, tools, and methods.
  • Adheres to all federal, state, and local building codes and laws.
  • Safely and efficiently operates a variety of power and hand tools to complete jobs accurately and to specifications; such tools may include wrenches, saws, drills, pipe cutters, etc.
  • Protects furnishings, equipment, and other property during plumbing repairs by properly covering or removing items.
  • Restores worksites to original condition by removing debris, scaffolding, and equipment used during the project and returning property, furnishings, and equipment to proper location.
  • Develops and maintains records regarding time spent and materials used for specific jobs.
  • Participates in the “On-Call” rotation as scheduled.
  • Provides status reports including the status of work projects, materials used, and hours spent performing labor to supervisor or other appropriate project lead.
  • Performs spot checks on equipment to ensure proper working condition; services tools and equipment as needed and returns damaged items for repair or replacement.
  • Ensures compliance with federal regulations, policies, and laws regarding construction, repairs, and proper environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, or use of chemical substances.
