Summer Camp Lifeguard

Concord Recreation is seeking Lifeguards for its Summer Camp program at the Emerson Pool. Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of the Camp Director and Head Summer Camp Lifeguard to safeguard all campers from water-related accidents. They are responsible for constant patrol surveillance of their assigned area and enforcement of recreational rules and regulations established by the Town of Concord Recreation Division.

In addition, lifeguards must practice preventative lifeguarding, keep themselves physically fit and mentally aware, maintain and operate safety equipment, administer first-aid as required, and render aid necessary to rescue and resuscitate near drowning victims. Lifeguards also assist in the cleaning, security, and maintenance of the Emerson Pool and adjacent areas.

Summer Camp Lifeguards will be a part of the greater Concord Recreation’s Lifeguard Team including all Guards from the Beede Center, Whites Pond, and Emerson Pool. Guards may be asked to assist at other facilities, but camp will take priority.

Additionally, as a member of the Summer Camp team, you may be asked to assist with program facilitation beyond the pool. This includes supervising activities, attending field trips, assisting with camper arrival and departure, and other duties as assigned by the Camp Director.

Pay & Hours

Pay range: $15.75-$20.00/hour; pay rate based on qualifications. This is an hourly, part-time position, consisting of up to 37.5 hours per week.

Monday to Friday, 8:30AM-4:00PM

June 4 & 5, 2026 @ 5:30PM – 8:30PM
June 6, 2026 @ 8:30AM – 4:00PM
June 17, 2026 @ 4:15PM – 5:15PM
July 1, 2026 @ 4:15PM – 5:15PM

Applications will continue to be accepted until filled. All applications will be reviewed and the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to one or more interviews and/or other assessments. Applicants will be notified of their standing in the process as soon as a decision has been made regarding their individual application.

Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including CORI and SORI checks. Costs of these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.

General Summary

Under the general supervision of the Camp Director and Aquatics Manager, performs lifeguard duties at an outdoor pool during a variety of camp activities. Responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintains watchfulness over pools or ponds to prevent dangerous situations.
  • Monitors and assists swimmers.
  • Enforces all facility rules; follows all safety‑related procedures.
  • Provides basic first aid.
  • Performs rescue if appropriate, calls for help, provides emergency care, interviews witnesses, and files reports.
  • Attends monthly in‑service trainings.
  • Maintains a high level of expertise and professionalism.
  • Maintains proper attire (red lifeguard bathing suit); reports with provided shirt and whistle.
  • Assists in the execution of certain activities and events, dealing with the camp and other programs.
  • Responsible for learning the facilities and the communication system in case of an emergency.
  • Familiar with phone locations, first‑aid station information, points of contact.
  • Performs other related duties as required, directed or as the situation arises.
Education, Experience &

Special Requirements
  • Current Lifeguard certification, or able to obtain prior to first shift.
  • Water Safety Instructor and Waterfront Lifeguard certification strongly preferred.
  • Must be 16 years of age or older (work permit needed if under 18).
  • Available to work for the entire season (~10 weeks).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of aquatic facilities, procedures, and equipment. Thorough working knowledge of and ability to perform lifesaving techniques, CPR and First Aid. Ability to swim.
