Job Summary

Ensures the highest level of excellence of support and training is provided to individuals with development disabilities. Provides opportunities for individuals to develop new vocational skills, expand existing ones, and develop and support employment relationships between individuals and the community employer; reliable and courteous transportation to individuals with safety a top priority; a communication link between individuals and staff; operates and maintains assigned vehicles;

maintains vehicles' and individuals' records; ensures provision of a safe and nurturing environment; and opportunities for individuals to experience a variety of activities that promote community inclusion.

Transportation Responsibilities
  • Transporting individuals to homes, businesses, and agency sites.
  • Operate and maintain transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and consumer courtesy. Practice defensive driving
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean.
  • Fuel the vehicles, as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate, up to date records on trip sheets, consumer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested.
  • Assist individuals in and out of the vehicle ensuring that all required safety equipment is utilized in the process of transporting consumers. This will include, but may not be limited to, operating ramps, lifts, and utilizing securement devices, as needed.
  • Read and interpret maps and driving directions to take the most efficient route and interpret road signs in English.
  • Responds immediately to accidents or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers and rendering First Aid and/or CPR until emergency personnel arrive.
  • Understand and adheres to Minute Man Arc's Vehicle Safety and Driving Record Evaluations Policy.
Qualifications
  • Experience in the human services field a plus.
  • Valid drivers' license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Obtain, and maintain, certification in First Aid, CPR, and Drivers' Safety and other mandated trainings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals verbally.
  • Must be able to work independently while demonstrating effective time management, organizational, and planning skills.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma / GED and 1-year experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • A valid driver's license and a minimum of one year of driving experience with a safe driving record.

In programs requiring pre-employment drug testing, identified employees will undergo drug testing for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines and phencyclidines (PCP). These individuals will also be required to undergo testing upon reasonable suspicion of being under the influence and after any accident whenever consumers are on board at the time of the accident. Post-accident testing for alcohol must occur within 8 hours of the accident and drug testing within 32 hours of the accident.
