Summary:
The Occupational Therapist will provide services within The Guild for Human Services School-Based Program for individuals 6-22 years old who are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities, including autism, along with concurrent mental health diagnoses and challenging behaviors. This position will be an integral piece of an interdisciplinary team whose primary goal is to provide effective interventions that lead to an improved quality of life, community inclusion, and functional skills development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement direct services using an integrated model of treatment implementation – designed to promote generalization to school, work, community, and home settings.
  • Provide collaborative consultation and training to the student team, using modeling as well as instruction regarding students’ needs.
  • Provide treatments using adaptive equipment, fine motor and gross motor skill development, vocational and life skills training, ADL and IADL training, and self-regulation training.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team to develop comprehensive treatments plans aimed at improving student quality of life; specifically engagement in functional skill development, vocational skills, and community inclusion.
  • Document clinical notes, complete progress reports, IEP/treatment plan information, and re-evaluations as required and requested by the team.
  • Participate in any team meetings pertaining to assigned individuals or program planning, as directed.
Essential Job Functions

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job including inclement weather situations.
  • Demonstrated evidence of mature judgment, good interpersonal skills, a desire to enrich individuals' lives and a willingness to learn from skilled professionals.
  • Physical and mental capacity to work in stressful situations and de-escalate individuals who have limited cognition and complex needs.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is an essential function of the job.
  • Pass Guild Driving test to access Guild vehicles for transportation of individuals.
  • Must possess sufficient use of the senses of vision, hearing, and touch to observe effectively in residential, community, and clinical settings.
Requirements

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Certified by NBCOT and licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • A valid driver's license
  • Must meet Massachusetts background check requirements.
