Engineering Lab Technician – St. Paul's School

Part‑time, school‑year position (approximately 18 hours per week). The technician will supervise student work in the Lindsay Center Engineering Lab during the times the lab is open outside of the class schedule (3:00 PM–9:30 PM) as students prepare to compete in the USFIRST Robotics competition.
The technician will train students in safe and proper use of lab equipment and tools and will help maintain the lab and its equipment, including a wood shop and a machine shop.
Responsibilities- Operate machine shop and wood shop equipment daily.
- Provide technical support to students and faculty daily.
- Maintain robotics laboratory, machine shop, and wood shop equipment.
- Consolidate and dispose of laboratory and shop waste.
- Assist faculty with storage of equipment and supplies.
- Assist faculty with tracking and maintaining inventory of laboratory and shop supplies.
- Promote a safe learning environment by observing shop procedures, inspecting equipment safety, and developing and demonstrating laboratory safety policies.
- Computer knowledge and experience with Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of CNC, lathe, router, handsaw, drill press equipment.
- Ability to work with students and a variety of people.
- Ability to handle numerous interruptions and requests.
- Flexibility to manage multiple student projects simultaneously.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take additional training.
- Strong organizational skills.
Employee must regularly talk and listen to people, use hands to handle or manipulate objects, equipment, and tools. Need a steady hand with good shoulder, arm, and hand strength. Regularly lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Vision: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentFrequent work in a machine and wood shop. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, loud noises, high‑speed moving parts, and sharp cutting edges.
