Scope of PositionPosition will serve as a manufacturing electrical controls resource for the Glassmaking Engineering group in Corning’s Concord, NC facility. Main responsibility is to ensure that complex manufacturing equipment and processes meet daily production requirements in terms of safety, quality, and reliability. Develop improvements for production equipment and participate in controls improvements and automation projects. Participate in synchronization efforts by actively receiving new technology and processes.
Day‑to‑DayResponsibilities
- Provide high‑quality electrical and process engineering‑level support for various electrical and machine controls systems in a fast‑paced, 24 × 7 manufacturing environment.
- Track daily production/quality metrics and plan reactionary measures as needed.
- Use data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts to solve process issues through Six Sigma/SPC tools.
- Own performance of key attributes: develop and maintain tracking tools, report daily discrepancies, and manage long‑term performance.
- Lead and/or work closely with technicians to resolve equipment and process issues.
- Provide incremental training on new equipment or process changes as needed to technicians or operations.
- Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
- Lead projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.
- Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
- Ensure all equipment and processes are safe to operate and follow safety procedures such as Lock‑Out Tag‑Out.
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated controls aptitude.
- Ability to debug and monitor PLC code – ladder logic or structured text.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and sound understanding of AC/DC electrical theory and practical application.
- Good problem‑solving skills and ability to reach first‑principles understanding.
- Working knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and/or Power
BI. - Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings. Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software.
- Knowledge of ANSI standards, NFPA and NEC applicable Electrical Codes.
- Ability to participate on, or lead, project or process improvement teams by communicating with all levels of the organization.
- 2 years of manufacturing experience.
- Experience and/or understanding of Six Sigma techniques.
- Strong diagnostic skills on electro‑mechanical systems.
- Self‑starter able to exceed expectations with minimal supervision.
- Extensive experience with various electro‑mechanical devices.
- Experience with Allen Bradley controllers and associated hardware including PLC, I/O devices, motion control, communication protocols, field wiring and disconnect devices.
- Experience with industrial vision systems and scanning devices.
Less than 5 %.
Hours of Work8 hours/day; 40 hours/week. Off‑hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co‑workers (less than 5 times per year).
