Welder / MIG/MAG/TIG, Fabrication
Technique is looking for a Welding Fabricator to join our team at our Concord, North Carolina facility, home to Technique’s NASCAR operations. Reporting to the Production Supervisor, the Welding Fabricator builds the chassis, welded tubular structures, and fabricated components that race on NASCAR’s biggest stages. This hands-on role covers fitting, tacking, and welding tube and sheet metal assemblies in precision jigs and fixtures, working from blueprints and welding procedures to meet tight dimensional and weld quality requirements on race-season deadlines.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of production welding and fabrication experience, with strong TIG and MIG skills on carbon steel and chromoly tubing. Motorsports or race car fabrication experience is a strong plus. They read blueprints with confidence, take pride in clean, consistent welds, and understand how heat and weld sequence affect distortion and dimensional accuracy. The right person works well on a team, keeps quality first under pressure, and wants to build parts that matter.
Responsibilities:
- Chassis & Tube Fabrication – Fit, tack, and weld tubular chassis structures and sub-assemblies in precision jigs and fixtures according to blueprints and NASCAR specifications.
- TIG & MIG Welding – Perform high-quality TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welds on carbon steel, chromoly, and other materials according to approved welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Sheet Metal Fabrication – Fabricate and weld brackets, mounts, gussets, and sheet metal components used in chassis and assemblies.
- Fit-Up & Preparation – Prepare tube and sheet components for welding by cutting, notching, coping, deburring, and cleaning to achieve tight, consistent fit-up.
- Blueprint Reading – Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, GD&T callouts, and work instructions to build parts correctly the first time.
- Distortion Control – Use proper weld sequencing, heat control, and fixturing techniques to minimize distortion and hold dimensional tolerances.
- Jig & Fixture Use – Load, clamp, and operate chassis jigs and fixtures correctly; report fixture wear, damage, or accuracy concerns to supervision and Quality.
- Self-Inspection – Inspect your own work for weld quality, fit-up, and dimensions using hand measuring tools before passing parts to the next operation or to Quality.
- Traceability & Documentation – Record serial numbers, material information, and weld records accurately to maintain full traceability on every chassis and critical component.
- Rework & Repair – Perform rework and repairs on parts and assemblies as directed, following approved procedures.
- Quality Collaboration – Work with Quality Inspectors and the Quality Manager to resolve nonconformances and support root cause and corrective action.
- Equipment Care – Set up, operate, and maintain welding machines, torches, saws, tube notchers, grinders, and other shop equipment, and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Continuous Improvement – Suggest improvements to fixtures, methods, and processes that improve quality, consistency, and build time.
- Team Support & Training – Support teammates across fabrication and assembly as needed, and help train newer fabricators on techniques and best practices.
- Workplace Safety & 5S – Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements, and keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; welding certificate or technical school training preferred
- Minimum 3 years of production welding and fabrication experience
- Motorsports, race car, or chassis fabrication experience strongly preferred
- Proficient in TIG (GTAW) and MIG (GMAW) welding on carbon steel and chromoly; tubular welding experience strongly preferred
- Ability to pass a welding…
