Senior Software Engineer – Enterprise Data Platforms

Location: Charlotte, NC
Schedule: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week
Employment Type: Contract with potential to convert
Conversion: Candidates must be eligible for conversion

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Software Engineer operating at a Senior/Lead level to design, develop, support, and evolve enterprise-scale cloud and data platforms.

This is a hands‑on engineering role combining software development, AWS cloud engineering, data platforms, infrastructure automation, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate will be comfortable writing production code while also helping drive technical direction, architecture decisions, engineering standards, and platform improvements.

A hands‑on technical coding assessment is part of the interview process. Recent, strong coding experience is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, cloud engineering, platform engineering, or a related field

  • 5+ years of hands‑on AWS experience building or engineering enterprise‑scale cloud platforms

  • 3+ years of hands‑on Terraform / Infrastructure as Code experience

  • 3+ years of production Kubernetes and Docker experience

  • 3+ years of professional Python and/or Java development

  • 3+ years of enterprise data platform experience

  • Demonstrated experience developing both data lakes and data pipelines

  • Recent hands‑on coding experience within the last 1–2 years

  • Strong technical leadership skills without requiring formal people‑management experience

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

  • Improve platform reliability, observability, security, and performance

  • Develop reusable engineering patterns and standards

  • Participate in architecture and design reviews

  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and collaboration

  • Translate complex or ambiguous business needs into scalable technical solutions

  • Partner with Product, Architecture, Cybersecurity, and engineering teams

  • Help shape the technical direction and long‑term roadmap for enterprise data platforms

Leadership & Communication

This position requires an engineer who can operate beyond individual development tasks and provide technical leadership.

  • Drive technical discussions and design decisions

  • Evaluate solutions for scalability, security, maintainability, and enterprise impact

  • Promote automation, standardization, and reusable solutions

  • Mentor and support other engineers

  • Proactively communicate project status, risks, and technical issues

  • Create clear technical documentation

  • Collaborate effectively with distributed teams and stakeholders

Location & Work Schedule

Charlotte, NC is a firm requirement. Candidates must currently be located in the Charlotte area or be willing to relocate.
