Compensation: £22,400 - £24,150 / year
Esland is driven to changing children’s lives for the better by providing best-in-class specialist services. Teaching Assistants (TAs) work alongside class teachers to support students to fulfil their potential and develop independence. TAs may work with individual students or small groups to access a broad, balanced, fun, relevant and functional curriculum. Students have a range of learning needs and may display challenging behaviours.
The position is based at our SEN School in Congleton (Cheshire), which supports vulnerable young people aged 8 to 18 years old with SEMH needs.
- Support the needs of primary and secondary aged children who have difficulty accessing mainstream education.
- Be aware of additional SEND needs that impact self-regulation — communication and interaction; cognition and learning; sensory and physical needs.
- Be inclusive, empathetic, solution-focused and passionate about making a difference for learners.
- Demonstrate awareness of trauma-informed practices and positive mental health promotion.
- Understand and manage behaviour that challenges.
- Be a team player and advocate for change, progression and school improvement.
- Appropriate knowledge of first aid.
- Ability to relate well to children and adults.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities.
- Some knowledge of National Curriculum requirements.
- Effective knowledge and use of ICT to support learning.
- Understanding of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
- Basic understanding of child development and learning.
- Ability to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek learning opportunities.
- Experience working with or caring for children.
